April 2012

L.I. Antique Power Association

It’s spring time and all of your winter projects should be done. At least it was fairly warm but the fuel oil prices were out of site. Hope to see your new projects out for our Open House on Memorial Day weekend. We’re trying something new this year. It’s all about letting people see what we’re all about and what we are looking to do in the years’ to come. I need “educators-tour guides” to educate our guests on the history and workings from our museum. We are not charging admissions but will have donation buckets placed around. If we do a good job explaining the workings or a machine or the history of a tractor or engine and explain what we are trying to accomplish, the buckets will not stay empty for long. We will also have food available for the public and ourselves, for a fee.

At our Open House we will have something new, Lawn Mower Racing. Per our insurance broker it’s actually a lawn mower exhibition. For more info call Darren Hinderliter or Matt Lindsey. We will also be having garden tractor pulls, but no large tractor pulls. Bring your tractors, trucks, engines, or whatever else for display. This will be a prelude to our 20th anniversary show July 14th and 15th. We will also have an in house swap meet for members only, but sales will be open to the public.

This year for our Saturday night dinner we are having it catered by Maple Tree. I am sending a copy of the menu. Not listed on the menu, but will be included at the dinner will be fresh sweet corn and baked potatoes. For dessert we will be having cake and coffee. The price will be $20 per person. Tickets are on sale now from Susan Young. Call her at 727-7943 to reserve your tickets. She will also be selling them at our meetings, open house and the Saturday of the show.

The Board met with our insurance broker and I believe that we have it all set. Waivers will be present to sign by all members. This protects us from the public. It’s just too bad we live in a lawsuit happy society, but we are here to stay.
